Trips Away

There are usually several trips away each year, for example to Connemara, Donegal, Scotland or the Lake District. Dates are advertised in the programme and further details distributed nearer the time. In order that such trips survive we are relying on members to suggest suitable places, help in organising the accommodation and to offer to lead some of the walks. Please make suggestions or offer your assistance to the committee.

Westport

The Club is organising an away trip to Westport, County Mayo, from 17–22 May 2026. The plan is to base the group at the Westport Coast Hotel and spend three full days hiking (Mon–Wed). The focus will be on the Nephin Range, with other options including Achill Island and one hike in the Doolough/Mweelrea area. The Westport Hillwalkers have offered to help with route planning and may provide volunteer guides.

The hotel is offering a 5-night package for the price of 4, covering B&B plus 4 evening meals (Sun–Thu). Those taking the offer stay an extra night (Thu) with dinner at their own expense and depart Fri 22 May. Prices:

  • Single: €549
  • Twin (per person sharing): €429
  • Triple (per person sharing): €419

Facilities include a spa, pool, and jacuzzi. Available rooms: 14 twin, 2 triple, 2 single.

Members should book directly with the hotel by calling 00353 98 55088, stating they are with the Mourne Rambling Group and booking the 5-night package at the Westport Coast Hotel. A credit/debit card is needed to secure the booking; cancellation terms should be checked.

Anyone needing help finding a roommate for a twin room can ask for assistance. After booking, members should email noelrice@btinternet.com with their details and (if relevant) their roommates.
