Safety on Walks

- All members should have appropriate hill walking boots, clothing and equipment for walking in mountain terrain.
- Check the mountain weather forecast the night before and pack your rucksack accordingly.
- Walks begin punctually so leave enough time to get to the start of the walk.
- Consider sharing transport. Walkers should follow the leader and not attempt to lead the walk or force the pace.
- The group must keep together. If a member wishes to leave the group during a walk, please inform the leader.
- Members must accept the leaders decisions.
- Most bad accidents occur when proceeding downhill so take extra care.
- Avoid climbing over fences or walls
- Walkers should follow their leader.
- Use stiles and close gates except when meant to be left open.
- Know where you are on the mountain.
- The 1:25000 Ordnance Survey Mourne Country Outdoor Pursuits Map or Activity Map is used.
